The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and everything is beginning to look a little brighter, the spring weather is officially upon us in the beautiful blue mountains. Whether you are a seasoned gardener looking to update your plants or landscaping for the coming months, an avid runner or hiker exploring our plethora of trails, or someone who loves hosting get-togethers with loved ones, the longer days and increased temperatures create the perfect opportunity to engage more with nature and our community. Spring is traditionally viewed as a season of renewal, growth and a great time to reflect on what no longer serves us for the months ahead whether in business, or as a whole. It is also an ideal time for removing anything in our current environment that we no longer need (hello spring cleaning!).

The May long weekend is here! Whether you are looking for lively entertainment, to indulge in some of the area’s best dining or an outdoors activity to do with the family, there are a number of fun events and options in our community. Of course, this list is not exhaustive; but some ideas if you wanted to check them out!

Thornbury–

If you are local to Thornbury or surrounding areas, the Thornbury library is hosting a fun event on Sunday May 17th, channel your inner artist and get in touch with your creativity at Chalk the Lot with special guest and artist Nicole Foster. Lemonade will be available for refreshments, and all are welcome with the chalk being supplied at no cost.

If you are looking for something fun to do with family or friends, why not take a tour of Thornbury Craft co. and Blue Mountain brewing company, the tour comes with four different beverages to taste and a fascinating history lesson about the building which can be booked directly through the website. They are also offering some live music performances this weekend including Sean McCurley on May 16th from 2-5pm and Lisa McEwan on May 17th from 1-4pm. Good vibes, live music and delicious drinks with light bites available to enhance the experience.

If you are looking for somewhere for some fun brunch energy, check out one of our favourite spots named Brunchies right off 26 near the heart of downtown Thornbury. The interior is beautiful, and the menu is curated with a variety of delicious options for every taste bud. With the warmer forecast and sunshine on the radar for this weekend (fingers crossed), The Port offers unparalleled views of the bay and Thornbury Harbour with tons of patio seating. With burgers made in-house, slow-roasted meats and a menu that is curated for the season, it’s a place where quality, good views and connection come together.

One of our personal favourites if you are looking for a lively night of drinks or entertainment with some friends is The Corner located right on the edge of Bruce Street in Thornbury. Filled with friendly local faces, welcoming staff and often hosting live entertainment, it’s the perfect place to catch up with some friends and enjoy some good times. For the long weekend The Corner is hosting some live music performances worth checking out, including the Mitchell Twins today from 8-11pm and Bernsy tomorrow from 8-11pm.

Collingwood–

The season opening of the Collingwood Farmers market will begin on May 16th from 8AM to 1PM. Drop by and bring a friend for a wide variety of local and fresh seasonal produce, baked goods, high quality meats and more to add to your kitchen for the upcoming spring and summer months.

For those in the community who are fans of pop culture or vetted collectors, ComiCon is returning to the Royal Canadian Legion on May 16th from 10AM to 3pm. Offering a unique selection of sports cards, comics, video games, toys and hand-crafted jewelry there is something for everyone. General admission is 5$ and kids are free with a paid adult for entry.

For some delicious local restaurants for Italian food lovers, we recommend checking out Tesoro and Brunellos on 27 on Fourth. They both offer high quality and authentically made Italian dishes with some menu items made directly in house. The beautiful ambience of both restaurants and convenient location close to downtown Collingwood make it an ideal choice for an afternoon or evening out.
